More Than a House: LM2 Completes First Home for the Center for Developmentally Disabled

More Than a House

Some projects challenge us to think differently about what we do and why we do it. As a commercial contractor, residential homes are not typically within our scope. So when we were first approached about constructing several new homes for the Center for Developmentally Disabled (CDD), we weren't sure it was the right fit.

But after meeting the organization's leadership and hearing their unwavering commitment to serving some of our community's most vulnerable individuals, our perspective changed. We quickly realized these weren't simply houses; they were opportunities to create places of safety, dignity, independence, and belonging. From that moment on, our team was fully committed to delivering the very best home possible. Every wall, every room, and every detail carried a greater purpose.

Today, we are proud to celebrate the completion of the first of several new homes for CDD. The CDD Individualized Supported Living House is a 2,565 square foot residential care facility thoughtfully designed to support accessibility and independence. Situated on a half-acre lot, the ranch-style home features an open-concept layout with vaulted ceilings, four bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a connected storage facility. More importantly, it was built around the unique needs of its future residents.

From a completely step-free environment and fully ADA-compliant design to oversized doorways, a ceiling lift trolley transfer system, and a safe room for severe weather, every element was intentionally designed to provide comfort, safety, and accessibility. Features such as a fully equipped kitchen with soft-close cabinetry, high-efficiency windows, a covered patio, and accessible parking ensure this house is more than functional; it feels like home.

Every detail was built with purpose, knowing that the spaces we create have the power to impact lives for generations. We are honored that CDD trusted us with this responsibility. This project reminded us that the most meaningful work isn't always the work we expected to do. Sometimes it's the work that calls us beyond our comfort zone and allows us to serve something bigger than ourselves.
